Providing affordable, year-round access to evidence-based adaptive exercise and rehabilitation programs.

The Challenge

At some point, we will all have a physical disability or have a close family member with one.

Right now, this population is sick, isolated, and losing hope. They have too many barriers to physical activity

Plus, insurance has time limits, so they can’t improve movement or get better.

Our healthcare system isn’t designed to help us reach optimal recovery or realize our potential.

    The Opportunity

When doctors say you’ve plateaued, we prove otherwise. Before MWH, clients spend 2 to 10 years in unproductive therapy settings.

MWH applies newfound research using our decades of experience. Our results are life-changing.

Science proves everyone gets stronger by moving. People with physical disabilities just the right equipment ─ plus lots of time.

As Christopher Reeve said in his last speech, “The idea is finally catching hold that rehab on its own can help people recover.”

    Our Solution

MWH provides a Continuum of Care. We have skilled PT, OT, and ST. But, many of our programs work outside of insurance.

We get the right tools, the right tech, and the right people. Plus, MWH connects all stakeholders to give care in one spot. This saves time and money for everyone.

We also offer financial aid and other supports ─ social groups, skills and job training, and more.

Simply put, MWH makes people happier, healthier, and more independent.

    A Continuum of Care

What does it take for a person with a physical disability to always be getting better?  Our Continuum of Care model means support for people at every step of post-acute recovery.

It begins with the clients we serve.

Every person’s experience and life is unique. We work with each client and their caregivers to develop a plan tailored to their needs, goals, and budget.

What is our Continuum of Care?

Everyone needs physical activity for good health.

That’s why we start by making regular movement possible with our sliding scale fee. Every client 6+ hours of exercise, rehab, and other support strategies each week. Most come year-round.

As clients regain strength, many learn how to use assistive technology. This helps all of us accomplish more. For clients, it facilitates their ability to learn, participate, and thrive in today's digital world.

Nationwide, we are the only organization that gives this level of support. MWH is flipping the script and transforming lives.

Our clients pay $0-$55/hour for adaptive exercise and all rehabilitation programming outside of insurance. This industry low pricing  and our sliding scale fee provides unprecedented access to regular movement for people living with physical disabilities.  Comparable clinics charge over $100/hour and are only located in a handful of locations nationwide.

For qualifying clients, supplemental funds are also available for insurance-based programs, such as physical therapy.

Through our partners, volunteers, and donors, we provide clients with:

    • wheelchairs, gear, and other medical necessities
    • funds for wheelchair and shoe repair
    • lightly used equipment
    • reliable transportation

    Adaptive Exercise

Our adaptive exercise program supports the fitness and health goals of our clients. Most programs are also open to the public for a fee through our Integrated Wellness Service.

    Rehabilitation Programs

In the U.S., insurance-based therapy programs have time limitations.  But, science tells us that all people get stronger and healthier with frequent, long periods of physical activity.

That’s why we’ve searched the globe to bring affordable, effective rehabilitation solutions to our home, and yours. We offer evidence-based programs found in Norway and Israel, and many therapies developed by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. Fundamentally, these programs require lots of time, so insurance won’t cover the cost.

By leveraging all types of therapy, MWH can offer clients 10+ hours of evidence-based rehabilitation every week, year round, in 3 key areas:

    1. Mobility & Physical Functions
    2. Activities of Daily Living
    3. Communication, Learning, & Socialization

        Mobility & Physical Functions

Physical Therapy (PT) is used to improve a client’s physical functions through examination, diagnosis, and rehabilitation. Our team can address conditions including orthopedic injuries, neck and back pain, neurological injuries, and balance. Most insurance plans cover about 30 minutes of PT per week.

Activity-Based Restorative Therapy (ABRT) at MWH works to reactivate and reorganize the central nervous and muscular system due to paralysis, neurological injuries, and chronic illness. MWH uses 4 main components of ABRT:

        1. Repetitive Neural Activity
        2. Exercise-Based Therapy
        3. Weight Bearing
        4. Concurrent Multi-Planar Neuro-Muscular Training

              Activities of Daily Living

Occupational Therapy (OT) is often needed to get clients back to performing their daily duties with more independence. Our team can help clients with skills such as dressing themselves, using tools, bathing, and cooking. Most insurance plans cover about 30 minutes of OT per week.

Independent Living Skills Training (ILST)  at MWH is designed to improve or maintain the ability of clients to live as physically independent as possible. Our team works with clients to improve:

              • Sitting, standing, and pivoting onto chairs, toilets, and beds
              • Walking independently
              • Getting down onto or up from the floor independently
              • Toileting, bathing, dressing, cooking, and using tools

Our facility has a  roll-in accessible shower with adult changing table and personal lockers for client use and training. Outside of MWH, this feature is available only in nursing homes and hospitals

              Communication, Learning, & Socialization

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) aids a client's ability to talk, eat, and swallow safely. Our team can help strengthen the muscles in the face, mouth, and throat. We also help clients improve memory, problem-solving, safety awareness, attention, and language. Most insurance plans cover about 30 minutes of SLP per week.

Cognitive and Language Programing at MWH is designed to help clients improve their thinking and communication skills. We use a variety of computer-based learning programs to teach and reinforce:

              • Cognitive Functioning
              • Speaking, Writing, and Typing
              • Reading
              • Problem-Solving

Socialization and Mentorship Programming at MWH pairs clients with regular mentors, volunteers, or peer groups to set goals and practice skills that will help them integrate into the community. Moving makes you feel good. But, having a supportive team along the way, makes all the difference.
